The 850 Commando’s are perhaps the most practical and versatile classic British motorcycles. They handle well, have great power, a good electrical system and a disc front brake. Most important, Isolatic rubber engine mounts quell what would otherwise be intolerable vibrations from the big Parallel-Twin.

The Norton Commando:

The British motorcycle company, Norton-Villiers first introduced the Commando line in 1968. The first models were produced with a 750cc engine mounted directly to the frame. In order to reduce extreme vibrations of the powerful twin engine, Norton contracted Rolls-Royce engineer Dr. Stefan Bauer to produce a new award-winning frame. By isolating the engine, gearbox and swing arm from the frame, Norton was able to move the center of gravity further forward and reduce vibrations. This new technology was named the Isolastic anti-vibration system, and lead to the most successful Norton model of all time.
