Dubbed “King of the Hill” upon its entry into the market, this 1st-gen Corvette ZR-1 reestablished the corvette as an American high-performance sports car.
Trading out the former 250 hp pushrod V8 in favor of a 350cid 380 hp 5.7 liter (LT5) DOHC V8,
at launch, this engine clocked in a 0-60 time of only 4.3 seconds (we are talking 1990 here). Now able to compete with the far more expensive European competition, the ZR1 is the first iteration of Corvette specifically focused on development and production on “the track”. In partnership with LOTUS Engineering, a fully owned subsidiary of GM at the time, they were tasked with joint development through-out as well as a complete redesign of both the braking and steering systems. This was the key in enabling the ZR-1 to shake off a perception that the Corvette was capable of only straight-line speed.
The car on offer is a pristine 6,000-mile example. Configured in Bright Red (81U) with a full black leather interior and 6-speed manual transmission (Automatic was NOT an option for the ZR-1). The black leather bucket seats conform to the driver and are extremely comfortable. The 17” aluminum “saw blade” wheels are free of any curb rash, new tires are recommended in the near future. An aftermarket audio system has been added, all original audio equipment will be included with the sale.
Only 2000 units were produced for the initial unveiling of the car in 1990. Ninety-five percent of which were pre-sold, making this an immediate collector! Own a historical piece of American muscle history. It’s fun and you won’t even remember you have to wear a mask once the engine starts.
